Tracey Emin: Sex and Solitude
Palazzo Strozzi presents Tracey Emin: “Sex and Solitude”, the largest exhibition ever held in Italy dedicated to one of the most renowned and influential contemporary artists.
Curated by Arturo Galansino, General Director of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, the exhibition explores the multifaceted practice of an artist who moves between painting, drawing, video, photography, and sculpture, experimenting with techniques and materials such as embroidery, bronze, and neon. The title refers to two key themes—sex and solitude—that run through more than 60 works spanning different phases of Tracey Emin’s career, from the 1990s to today. It offers an intense journey through themes of the body and desire, love and sacrifice. Many works are being shown in Italy for the first time, alongside newly created pieces across various media, produced specifically for the exhibition.
Known for her raw and direct artistic approach, Tracey Emin creates works where intimate and personal moments become existential metaphors, reflecting on sexuality, illness, solitude, and love. Through an honest and deeply autobiographical practice, she transforms personal experiences into powerful, emotive works, where the bold language of her neon phrases meets the striking physicality of her paintings and sculptures.
