Mathieu Dafflon: Colmar

Artist Mathieu Dafflon presents a new cycle of paintings at Wilde | Genève, distancing himself from “painting that speaks of painting”. Titled “Colmar” the new series addresses reality, everyday life, and the banality of images. The artist also returns on motifs and themes recurring in his research: he combines tragedy and comedy, the human body, sexuality, and banality of daily life, turning apparently-void subjects into the sublime.
Dafflon’s paintings question the status of the art object, its relationship with the images, and what viewers experience on a retinal level.
