mounir fatmi: The Process
Solo exhibition by Moroccan artist mounir fatmi
“The Process”, on view at Wilde gallery in Geneva, is a collection of thoughts, phenomena, operations by artist mounir fatmi representing the ultimate extension of the artist as a Medium. His entire research starts from the idea of the death of the media and the collapse of industrial and consumerist civilisation. In this scenario, the work of art lays between Archive and Archeology.
fatmi’s entire practice focuses on the subject of media: since the beginning of his career, he has been investigating the effect of technologies on popular culture, challenging the limits of memory, language, and communication. He often works with almost obsolete materials, such as old typewriters, antenna cables, photocopiers, or VHS cassettes.
