Omar Ba: Power of Objects
Solo exhibition by Senegalese artist Omar Ba
The solo exhibition at Wilde Gallery in Geneva digs into Omar Ba‘s work. The Senegalese artist mixes references from different cultures to develop a personal language for criticising existing systems and formulating poetic alternatives. His pieces eliminate borders between Africa and Europe, present and past, good and bad, merging western and African experiences.
For him, the represented powers’ hegemony is challenged by nature. After an abstraction phase, Ba has begun creating figurative compositions oscillating between fantasy and reality: symbols of power such as military decorations and outfits become colourful touches and dreamlike forms, hybrid and mysterious creatures evoking motifs of both nature and civilisation. In this way, he imagines a unique artistic world that questions conventional systems and cultural differences.
