Yann Gross and Arguiñe Escandón: Aya

Wilde | Genève hosts the exhibition dedicated to artists Yann Gross and Arguiñe Escandón. Their body of work named “Aya” follows the path of two 19th-century Western photographers who worked in the Amazon.
Escandón and Gross use both ancient and contemporary pictures representing that landscape, in which death becomes a constant and powerful presence. In this sense, their research track down the spectres of civilisation and the photographic medium as described by Roland Barthes: photography is always ‘the image that produces Death by wanting to preserve life’.
