Daniel Buren and Bettina Pousttchi at Kunsthalle Mainz

A collaboration between two artists from two different generations both working with space and location. Daniel Buren (born 1938) and Bettina Pousttchi (born 1971) together put on display new site-specific and existing works in the recently renovated ex-boiler and turbine building Kunsthalle Mainz. The artists simultaneously intervene in the single story brick boiler house, presenting layers of the present and past. Pousttchi establishes a connection between current functions of buildings or places with those of their pasts, here the brick work and the tower being her central motif. Whilst Buren is interested in the ambiguity of space and neutralises it with his specific lighting and proportion conditions.
