Power! Light!

With the exhibition "Power! Light!" the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg is now for the first time offering an insight into the fascinating spectrum of light art.

Hollerpl. 1, 38440 Wolfsburg, Germany

The exhibition “Power! Light!” presents approximately 80 works of light art by sixty internationally renowned artists, offering for the first time an insight into the fascinating spectrum of light art.

Although there are numerous negative effects associated with the persistent and excessive use of artificial light, on the other hand without it global economic and cultural development would have been virtually inconceivable. Artificial light makes cultural events possible, offers social space and protection, can showcase people, objects, or consumer articles and thus lend them meaning. In contrast to previous exhibitions on light design and light art, the exhibition curated by Andreas Beitin and Holger Broeker does not only focus on the positive aspects of light: based on selected works from the collection of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, the exhibition therefore concentrates on artistic positions in which light or light works in the broadest sense have political, social, ecological or manipulative meanings.

Artists involved: Siegrun Appelt, Awst & Walther, Maja Bajević, Matthias Berthold, Joseph Beuys, Christian Boltanski, Monica Bonvicini, Madeleine Boschan, Daniel Canogar, Claire Fontaine, Jürgen & Nora Claus, Bill Culbert, Sven Drühl, Sam Durant, Olafur Eliasson, Patrick Fenech, Sylvie Fleury, Petrit Halilaj, Georg Herold, Lori Hersberger, Damien Hirst, Michael Hirschbichler, Stephan Huber, Alfredo Jaar, Christian Jankowski, Anne Marie Jugnet & Alain Clairet, Šejla Kamerić, Brigitte Kowanz, Mischa Kuball, Dominik Lejman, Los Carpinteros, !Mediengruppe Bitnik, Tatsuo Miyajima, molitor & kuzmin, Robert Montgomery, Heike Mutter und Ulrich Genth, Warren Neidich, Jens Pecho, Nana Petzet, Daniel Pflumm, Bettina Pousttchi, Tobias Rehberger, Ariel Reichman, Bernardí Roig, Gregor Schneider, Silke Silkeborg, Paul Thek, Timm Ulrichs, Mariana Vassileva, Peter Weibel, Cerith Wyn Evans, Naneci Yurdagül.
