Experimental Films in Asia

Many experiment films were produced independently by individual artists who experimented in avant-garde creativity that cannot be expressed in the institutional system. Asian experimental films are marked with their freedom in expression and theme that adopt the western aesthetic while applying the traditional aesthetics of Asia.

This project begins with 250 works by 23 directors who have led the development of experimental films in Asia. Many objects, documents, and bibliographic data that show the progress of Asian experimental film are on display as well. While professional archiving and research on the Asian experimental film is lacking in general, “Experimental Films in Asia” will play an important role in elaborating the film history of Asia.
