Video Art in Asia
Video art that was made by many Asian artists including Nam June Paik has now become one of the major media for contemporary art. Diverse aspects of Asian culture and art are reflected in video art.
This project has established a study collection that will function as the foundation for the study and preservation of the video art in Asia as well as its appreciation. Its current collection includes 550 works by 15 Asian video artists who are based in East Asia, Southeast Asia or western countries. The collection will continue to expand covering more works and artists. The collection also includes various materials including catalogues, brochures, individual research materials, and installation instructions that will help our understanding of the artists’ ideas. This project will play an important role in illuminating the unique aesthetic of the Asian video art.
