The first significant exhibition of artistic duo Gilbert & George held in a Nordic country in the last two decades is hosted by HAM (Helsinki Art Museum), Finland. The two present for the occasion a selection of over 50 large-scale pictures, spanning a period in their career which runs from 1991 till 2016, offering an overview of their practice.
Their work deals with a wide array of subjects, always inspired by every day situations, ranging from their personal daily experience to the modern life of London’s East End, where they have lived for the last fifty years. Gilbert & George’s artistic research seeks to provoke, interrogate and inspire at the same time their audiences, pushing them to reflect upon life and ways of perceiving the works themselves. Gilbert & George are always the subjects or embodiment of their own works, making life and art’s boundaries disappear.
