15 Invitations: Int Guerrero: Udlot udlot
For 15 Invitations, Hong Kong-based curator Inti Guerrero presents his research on the work of Filipino experimental musician and composer José Maceda (Philippines, 1917–2004). The exhibition in the AAA library includes archival and audiovisual materials on Maceda, as well as works, short films, and artefacts by Pio Abad, Anand Patwardhan, Jan Švankmajer, and Koki Tanaka to contextualise the concepts behind two major Maceda compositions including Udlot–udlot, a 1972 large-scale sound performance documented in AAA’s The Chabet Archive.
In taking the compositions as its source, the exhibition correlates Maceda’s experimental work during authoritarian rule with a selection of artists and filmmakers working today.
15 Invitations asks guests to look within and beyond the organisation as an archive, a collection of material, a digital platform, and a node in a wider collective network. Taking various sizes, forms, and directions—literary, polemic, political, sonic, physical, digital—it will function as a series of ‘drop pins’ to alternately navigate where Asia Art Archive originated and where it may be going. AAA’s e-journal Field Notes will trace the 15 participants as they contribute notes and entries to document the process, resulting in a final print publication.
Invited participants include Zoe Butt, Inti Guerrero, Hu Fang and Zhang Wei, Marysia Lewandowska, Walid Raad, Rashid Rana, Samson Young, as well as AAA team members and others.
