The K11 Art Foundation (KAF) presents The InfernoAMA’s Solo Exhibition

A singular Hong Kong multidisciplinary artist, AMA graduated from the Fine Arts Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004 and is now working to complete a Master of Expressive Arts Therapy at the University of Hong Kong. She has participated in different solo and joint exhibitions in Hong Kong, China, Korea and New York. Her artworks have been exhibited in Osage Gallery, Gallery Exit, Shenzhen T6 Art Museum, Fotanian Studio Opening, and SUP Gallery in Seoul. As a musician and singer-songwriter, AMA has performed in a variety of venues in Hong Kong, China, Korea, as well as on broadcasting platforms including RTHK, TVB, and ATV. To date, AMA has also committed herself to disc with three albums: Seoulful in 2007, A Taste of Life in 2010, and her latest self-produced solo album The Inferno in 2015. The Inferno – AMA’s Solo Exhibition is the first exhibition of “As Far As Near”, the latest KAF project to promote emerging Hong Kong artists and curators. The project consists of four consecutive and individually themed exhibitions in relations to its title, and aims to increase the local audience’s recognition of, and interest in, Hong Kong’s local talents, arts and culture.

AMA’s The Inferno exhibition was inspired by the 14th century Italian Dante Alighieri’s poetic trilogy the Divine Comedy: Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso. Referencing the scenery depicted in Dante’s Inferno, the exhibition venue is designed as a Dantesque metaphoric dark forest and represents AMA’s past traumas, tribulations and confrontation with alcoholism. Through a series of paintings, poetry and music artworks created by AMA during the past five years, the audience will be guided through this subdued environment while encountering each art piece as a sound, visual and cultural experience. The audience will also discover in the journey of AMA’s battle against the hardships and predicaments of life, and her realisation that the “the light shines the brightest in the dark”.

As the highlight of the exhibition, AMA accompanied by renowned musicians William Lane and Heidi Law, will be performing two spiritual performances about The Inferno. For the opening performance, The Dark Forest, there will be a mystical rendition of AMA’s original music album, The Inferno. As a closing performance, Rebirth will present the spirit of hope as a prelude to the second part of the trilogy, Purgatorio.
