Cao Fei: A hollow in a world too full
Tai Kwun, 10 Hollywood Road, Central, Hong Kong
A hollow in a world too full is the first large institutional exhibition dedicated to artist Cao Fei in Asia, centred around her newly commissioned film Prison Architect. The video stages the poetic dialogue across time between two characters, a prisoner and an architect, who represent respectively the building’s past as a penal structure and its future, as a cultural institution. Fei’s work usually deal with the colonial history and topics related with contemporary issues in the Mainland, using also funny or surreal register to explore, through its characters and scenarios, larger realities.
