Constructing Mythologies
Constructing Mythologies explores the strong systems of belief that are part of the contemporary culture and daily lives and the mechanism that bring them to become established mythologies. Myths arise when these beliefs are nourished by a discourse generated and appropriated by the society and by its system of communication.
The five artists featured in the show reflect on the construction of mythologies especially in countries with strong narratives, which aim to promote State ideology and obscure some parts of the history through the spread of fictional discourses. This exhibition aims to express how everything can actually become a myth and the process of construction of certain mythologies in Cambodia, China, Myanmar and Vietnam, in particular.
