Kai Schiemenz: New Stones
Presented by Goethe-Institut Hongkong in collaboration with EIGEN+ART
Kai Schiemenz (born in 1966 in Erfurt, lives and works in Berlin) showcases a combination of various form composites made of multicolored Styrodur, crystalline glass objects, and collaged drawings. The two rows of sculptures circle the idea of sculpture, approaching it from various sides. While the crystalline sculptures are created in a long process of casting, grinding, and polishing, the more ephemeral plastic conglomerations appear like playful answers to the traditional slowness of working in stone. Nothing here is set in stone. In the digital Anthropocene age, for the first time, the once mute witness of the materiality of the world collides with the simulatability of the stones.
