Liao Chi-Yu: Sanssouci Park
am space presents Taiwanese artist Liao Chi-Yu‘s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong.Liao Chi-Yu is is good at creating image narration. Her works focus on body experience, memories and emotions. A sweet image style is mixed with violence and conflicts or irreversible helplessness and sorrow that can be seen everywhere in life. Through role-playing and open narration, the shared moments between people are finely described.
In the artist’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, a new work departs from two fires experienced by a lady. The first was when the home was hit by arson; the second one happened after the death. All memories fade with vulcanised photos. Images and speech reveal the gap between dream and reality. Romantic imaginations seem to have become an exit for all the cruel truths of the reality. This works extend previous concerns with the observation of subject matters through lenses and travel between artificial family and dailylife scenes to reflect contemporary life.
