Mona Hatoum: Remains of the Day
Remains of the Day is artist Mona Hatoum‘s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. Hatoum works taking inspiration from everyday life situations, with a focus on the instability that characterizes the contemporary world. She usually assembles her pieces from rough materials and industrial components: the resulting objects carry a powerful emotive charge and aim to create in the viewers a sense of unease.
The show collects together the large-scale installation “Remains of the Day” (2016−18), which evolves from work made for the 10th Hiroshima Art Prize exhibition, sculptures and works on paper, in which, once more, simple and domestic objects are modified by the artist to discard the usual perception of things and transmit a sense of insecurity.
