Poetic Estrangement
"Poetic Estrangement" is the title of the exhibition that reshapes the atrium of the Jockey Club through the works of artists from the Hong Kong Art School.
Alumni and students of the Hong Kong Art School are invited to use the Jockey Club atrium with their creative thoughts and touches, transforming it into an exhibition area full of experimental and inspiring discoveries. This series consists of two exhibitions, curated by subject coordinators/teachers from the Hong Kong Art School specialising in the following four main disciplines: Ceramics, Painting, Photography and Sculpture.
The works by Pak Sui Chi, Lit Wing Hung and Wong Ka Yi Edith call to mind Russian theorist Viktor Shklovsky‘s 1917 essay “Art as a Device”: the “making strange” in art that Shklovsky proposes in his essay asks art to restore the real sensation of “seeing”, and not just “recognising” things. In this exhibition, we find the search for this estrangement in the artworks of the artists in the show.
