Post-Human Narratives—In the Name of Scientific Witchery
Para Site presents an unique off-site exhibition at the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences, featuring nine women artists from Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan.
The works of the nine artists in the exhibition confront medical and scientific practices throughout history, often considered controversial or unorthodox: from genetic engineering to xenotransplantation, from dream analysis to sound healing and ritual performance. Outside the Para Site space, “Post-Human Narratives-In the Name of Scientific Witchery” takes place in the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences and marks the third iteration of a collective series of on-site and online initiatives using posthumanist thought as a starting point. Focusing on the porous boundary between dichotomies such as nature versus man, man versus machine, and empirical versus supernatural worlds, the exhibition aims to centre peripheral histories of the mythical and magical as a way to challenge prevailing narratives centred on scientific rationality.
Artists involved: Betty Apple, Ho Sin Tung, Mayumi Hosokura, Hui Serene Sze Lok, Florence Lam, Liv Tsim, Hou Lam Tsui, Ice Wong Kei Suet and Bobby Yu Shuk Pui.
