Statement 2: New Paintings from Germany

Goethe-Institut Hong Kong presents an exhibition series, Statements, introducing a new generation of German artists to Hong Kong.

The participating artists are Stefanie Gutheil (b. 1980), whose colourful figurative paintings combine the tradition of German Expressionism with the imagery of the present; Uwe Henneken (b. 1974), who represents the position of a contemporary romantic with his profound sense of humour and extreme erudition; Florian Meisberg(b. 1980), whose works deal with the global experience of the digital parallel world; Sebastian Neeb (b. 1980), who allows the different painting styles – from old masters to abstraction – collide with each other to great effect; Tanja Rochelmeyer (b. 1975), whose world of forms related to architecture takes its cue from classical modernism; Christoph Ruckhäberle (b. 1972), who used to deal with different figurative pictorial traditions as a representative of the New Leipzig School and now presents large-scale abstract musical structures.
