Stella Tsoi: A Woman Like Her
Hong Kong Art School hosts the first solo show of the young photographer Stella Tsoi, graduate from the Hong Kong Art School’s Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme, majoring in Photography.
These the words the artist dedicated to her mother, which is also the main theme of the exhibition: “It is bitter when I look at my mother, as a woman, as a mother of two, as a wife. She was once so young, so beautiful, with her eyes filled with love and hope. Unlike my mother who took a lot of photos in her youth, I have almost nothing. Seeing her look at the old photos and reminisce the good old times, I just feel sad.
She may not have had a remarkable life, but with all the sorrows and pains, it is heavy enough for one to put it on her shoulders. Grew up in the post-war era in Hong Kong, she took her steps walking into the unknown future. Because of her disastrous marriage, she could not spend her remaining years in comfort. The best of her time fades with the old photos and her fragile memories, until one day when all are gone forever”.
