At Hand
The exhibition brings together the works of Ásmundur Sveinsson (1893-1982) with contemporary artists who engage with craft-informed traditions and handwork practices. This exhibition highlights a renewed appreciation for handwork in contemporary art, responding to a digital age where much of life has moved away from tactile, handmade processes. It challenges the traditional view that handwork is solely utilitarian, showing how contemporary artists fluidly integrate weaving, carving, and other crafts into their art. The exhibition also explores themes related to the home, women’s work, and gendered skills, reflecting the blurred boundaries between contemporary art and traditional craft.
