Iván Navarro: Light At the End of the Tunnel

Light At the End of the Tunnel is Iván Navarro‘s first solo exhibition in Turkey. The exhibition features three wall-works alongside three free- standing sculptures, including the installation “Resistance” that was part of his 2009 Venice Biennial exhibition.

Navarro uses electricity and industrial materials to investigate larger power systems at work in society. Throughout Navarro’s work light is a powerful symbol. His sculptures pulse with life, but there is also danger inherent in the electric current that runs through them. They speak of the industrialization of the human body and the way in which human electricity is transformed into industrialized electricity.

Born and educated in Chile, Navarro has lived and worked in the United States since 1997. His body of work straddles two visual cultures; he engages with the concerns and subjects of his homeland while simultaneously participating in a dialogue with American art movements.
