Marinella Senatore: In ognuno la traccia di ognuno

Commissioned by the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo for the San Licerio hill, the large multi-coloured light sculpture is what Marinella Senatore calls a 'monument to people here and now'.

Parco d'arte Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Viale Bouillargues, 34, 12050 Guarene CN, Italy

From afar, in the night, it appears like a phantasmagoria; up close, it creates a special space, a place of encounter and community. Inspired by the luminarias typical of southern Italian village festivals and the friezes of Baroque architecture, it was made by Apulian craftsmen to the artist’s design.

The sculpture joins the others in the park. “In ognuno la traccia di ognuno“, commissioned by the Foundation, is a large light sculpture that the artist conceived for the hill of San Licerio, continuing the dialogue between nature and art that is the hallmark of this place.

Senatore’s work harmoniously accompanies the development of the walkway that marks the slope of the hill, creating a long decorative frieze of multicoloured lights, at the centre of which stands out the phrase that gives the work its title, “In ognuno la traccia di ognuno“.

Light installations are conceived by Senatore as catalysts of energy aimed at celebrating individuals and communities. Light becomes a symbolic element to build spaces of sharing, to activate places and the people who inhabit them.

The phrase that composes it is the result of a collective collection of unpublished thoughts and literary quotations, a participatory process that involved, through the Civic Library, schools, associations and the citizenship of Guarene.

Among the many proposals of this intergenerational group, Marinella Senatore chose the verse of a poem by Primo Levi dedicated to and entitled Agli amici (To Friends).

Friends

“in the broad sense of the word:

wife, sister, sodalists, relatives

classmates and schoolmates,

people seen only once

or practised for a lifetime”

“In each the trace of each”.
