Mitoraj in Pompei

Scavi Archeologici di Pompei, Via Villa dei Misteri, 2

30 monumental sculptures by the artist Igor Mitoraj find their place in the archeological site of Pompei.

This extraordinary posthumous exhibition of the Polish artist – but Italian by adoption – will remain visible until January 2017. The majestic bronze sculptures have been placed in different areas of the excavations, under the artistic direction of Luca Pizzi, Atelier Mitoraj: in the Temple of Venus, the Basilica and the Forum, Street of the Baths Stabiane , the Triangular Forum up to the portico of the Theatre.

After the success of the exhibitions in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento and in the Markets of Trajan in Rome, the exhibition aims to be an osmotic union between archeology and contemporary art of the Master Mitoraj. Two realities that end up merging with and – never outdo each other , establishing a harmonious dialectical link that highlights and enhances both the historic solemnity of the excavations as the figures of the Polish master. The imposing and elegant sculptural characters will live then with the most famous buildings of ancient Pompeii: Daedalus and the Temple of Venus, the Centaur and the Forum, the Centurion and the Baths Stabiane, Ikaro winged and triangular hole.

A major exhibition conceived and promoted by Fondazione Pilastro – Italian and Mediterranean with the patronage of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture and Tourism. and organized by Pompei Superintendency , the Art Gallery Contini and the Atelier Mitoraj ( Pietrasanta ).
