BioMedia: The Age of Media with Life-like Behavior

ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe presents “BioMedia: The Age of Media with Life-like Behavior“, a major collective exhibition that examines artificial systems able to resemble organic life.

Curated by the well-known artist and media theorist – and above all CEO of ZKM – Peter Weibel, the exhibition questions the meaning of  “being alive” by exploring technological forms of intelligence able to simulate life. Through the exhibition, artists try to answer some key questions: can an artificial intelligence feel empathy? How do artificial agents and environments behave? How should we consider life-like behaviour enacted by artificial systems? “Biomedia” presents suggestions for a harmonious coexistence of organic and technological life, implying that this alliance could be the key to preserving the world from the backdrop of the profound ecological crisis, mass extinction, and human-made climate catastrophe.
