Projeto MURMUR #2 Juliet and Juliet de Isabel Cordovil
The project MURMUR forms part of the temporary exhibitions programme at MACAM, dedicated to presenting works by Portuguese and international artists conceived specifically for the museum’s Grand Hall. In this second edition, curated by Carolina Quintela, Portuguese artist Isabel Cordovil (Lisbon, 1994) presents an installation that explores the tension between inherited and desired identity, between language and love, norm and otherness.
Cordovil’s practice examines the politics of revisiting narratives — whether mythological, folkloric, religious, literary or dreamlike — and the ways in which these stories can be reinterpreted or reimagined. Working primarily through installation and sculpture, she develops a poetic and playful visual language that embraces freedom and disobedience, while seeking new forms of belonging, resistance, and celebration of alterity.
