Allora & Calzadilla: Foreign in a Domestic Sense

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the gallery, Allora & Calzadilla are presenting a new body of works which explore themes of social awareness and politics.

The title of the show ‘Foreign in a Domestic Sense’ alludes to the concept first used by United States Supreme Court Justice Edward E. White in the 1901 Downes v. Bidwell case – a ruling that gave legal sanction to the US colonisation of foreign territories through the ambiguous formulation of territorial non-incorporation.
Artworks on display include new sculpture, performance, photo and video works.
