Antony Gormley
The Royal Academy of Arts, London, hosts the solo exhibition dedicated to the acclaimed British sculptor Antony Gormley, featuring both already existing and new works, specially commissioned for the occasion. Drawings, sculptures and experiential environments actively engages visitors, inviting them to rethink their way to inhabit the space.
Gormely’s work holds a strong focus on the the relationship between oneself, the dark and inner spaces of the bodies and the surrounding spaces. The exhibition path unveils this concern of the artist, starting from his experimental pieces of the late 1970s and early 1980s, rarely exhibited before, influenced by Land Art, Performance and Minimalism to include the sculptures produced from the 1980s onwards, where the artist’s body is protagonist. Besides them, a wide selection of works on paper, made of unusual materials such as blood, oil and earth.
