Arpita Singh: Remembering
“Remembering” is Arpita Singh’s first solo institutional exhibition outside India, showcasing key works from her six-decade career. The exhibition, curated in close collaboration with the artist, features large-scale oil paintings alongside intimate watercolours and ink drawings.
Singh’s art reflects her emotional and psychological state, inspired by Bengali folk art, Indian stories, and personal experiences of social upheaval and global conflict. The exhibition traces her exploration of Surrealism, figuration, abstraction, and Indian miniature painting, with a growing focus on themes of motherhood, the aging female form, sensuality, vulnerability, and violence.
Her works offer intimate depictions of both domestic life and the challenges women face in the external world, presenting a complex interplay between cityscapes, historical events, and everyday experiences.
