Art + Revolution in Haiti
The immersive exhibition develop through three different venues, to recall the period in 1945 when Surrealism spread across a former slave colony. The episode is told through a display of objects by artists from the Centre d’Art d’Haïti, along with works by the collection of André Breton, the founder of Surrealism, on view at The Gallery of Everything. With the opening of Frieze Week, the exhibition expands with a solo presentation of large-scale, figurative abstractions by the visionary painter, Robert Saint-Brice, on view at the 1-54 African Art Fair in Somerset House. The project will culminate at Frieze Masters with a survey of rare masterpieces by key influencers in the Haitian narrative. The event is the first occasion in which such extensive collection of objects referring to these historical events are exhibited in a commercial context.
