Bram Bogart
Bram Bogart's work displayed at White Cube Mason's Yard, London: a journey through three-dimensional abstractism
White Cube Mason’s Yard is displaying Bram Bogart‘s latest work this winter.
Running in London from 29 January to 7 March 2020, the exhibition shows the paintings of an artist that worked on abstractism in a very unique manner. Developing numerous stylistic techniques that ranged from pointillism to cubism, he became a “builder” rather than a painter towards the end of his career. In his creations, the canvas becomes the background of a three-dimensional experience, and the masses of paint play a major role in his whole artistic production.
The Belgian artist focuses its entire work around the concept of painting as an abstract sculpture, physically manipulating colours as thick materials and exploiting the anti-gravitational potentiality of surfaces. By conceiving the canvas as an empty wall, he develops a materialistic approach that makes the painting a layer of different colours, forms and gestures, detaching himself from any other previous artistic tradition.
