Dan Rees: Disguised as a Dog

49 Staffordshire Street

Disguised as a Dog is the solo exhibition of artist Dan Rees, showing new works by the artist and merging sculpture, painting and photography. The pieces intend to reflect on the concept of “cycinism”, which underwent an evolution from the ancient meaning to the contemporary one: while the ancients considered it as “an unparalleled earnestness and commitment in their doggedness towards freedom of the self from institutionalised forms of power”, in modern times it carries a different meaning. Today cynicism derives from the flattening of values, which result in nihilism and escapist behaviors.
