David Hockney: Drawing from Life
A comprehensive exhibition exploring over six decades of Hockney's practice as a draughtsman
St Martin’s Place
The solo exhibition is the first major one dedicated to David Hockney‘s drawings over the last twenty years. “David Hockney: Drawing from Life” collects around 150 works on loan from private and public collections, the David Hockney Foundation and the artist, exploring his drawing practice from the 1950s on. This consists mainly of portraits of himself and a small group of sitters, including his muse Celia Birtwell, his mother, friends, the curator Gregory Evans, and master printer Maurice Payne.
The exhibition also features a series of new portraits, drawings from a Paris- period in the 1970s, and a selection of works from the 1980s, when Hockney started to portray himself every day over two months.
