Hannah Collins: El tiempo del fuego

Maureen Paley hosts El tiempo del fuego a new exhibition by Hannah Collins, presented across the gallery’s two London spaces:

Her work draws attention to historical and social frameworks and addresses a wide range of subjects and geographical locations through images of interiors, exteriors, interactions, and specific objects.

During the last 18 months, the limited context we all experienced, depending on technology for information and imagery, the artist recurring memories of the journey in the Colombian Amazon she made after a cancer treatment, became a shared photographic image remade in the context of a studio.

The image of flames in the forest is her recreation of a memory of one of the healing and hopeful tribal rituals, serving as a reminder of illumination in the darkness and the flame of life emerging from her Amazonian experience.

According to the artist’s will, a portion of any sales generated from this exhibition will be gifted to The Amazon Conservation Team who partner with indigenous and local communities to protect tropical forests and strengthen traditional culture.
