Jean-Luc Godard: Scénario(s)
This exhibition explores Jean-Luc Godard’s final creative project, featuring the UK premiere of Scénarios (2024) and his last two films, alongside his extensive creative notebooks. It offers a rare glimpse into Godard’s reflective process, blurring the boundaries between film, visual art, and philosophy.
In the last years of his life, Godard dedicated himself to a project he called his ultimate work, originally titled “Scénario” and renamed “Scénarios” just a week before his death in September 2022. This multifaceted endeavour—spanning film, exhibition, and opera—confronts themes of ageing and mortality, while building on and diverging from the path set by “The Image Book” (2018).
The exhibition features “Scénarios” (18 minutes), completed in Godard’s final days, alongside Exposé du film annonce du film “Scénario” (36 minutes), offering insight into his creative process. Visitors can also explore reproductions of five notebooks, revealing Godard’s meticulous, tactile approach to creation.
