Kemang Wa Lehulere: Not Even the Departed Stay Grounded
Artist Kemang Wa Lehulere’s first exhibition at the gallery opens Marian Goodman Gallery London‘s 2018 – 19 season. His practice is influenced by the years of social activism which preceded the beginning of his artistic career and investigates socio-political issues, drawing from both his familial experience and research. It has also become the subject of several substantial museum solo exhibitions, and included in biennials, throughout the USA and Europe.
The London exhibition includes a series of new sculptural works and drawings, many of which containing some of the recurring elements typical of artist’s work, like messages-in-bottles, porcelain dogs, bird houses and the cast hands of his aunt, augmented by new imagery and objects bound together or suspended by shoe-laces.
