Luigi Ghirri: Colazione sull’Erba

“Colazione sull’Erba” (Luncheon on the grass) is a series of photographs by Luigi Ghirri (1943-1992, Emilia-Romagna, Italy) which bring together a collection of intimate moments in a person’s daily life.  The photos feature the artist’s familiar Modenese context and its courtyards, windows, and houses.

The series can be read as characteristic of Ghirri’s later work such as his use of a central fixed lens, grid structures, isolation, and repetition. These images represent the authentic and mythical renderings of contemporary life.
