Mark Leckey: O’ Magic Power of Bleakness

Tate Britain, Millbank, London SW1P 4RG, UK

The solo exhibition dedicated to the Tuner prize winning artist Mark Leckey at Tate Britain, London transforms the spaces of the gallery. The artist exhibits here both new and existing works, including seminal pieces such as “Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore”(1990) and “Dream English Kid 1964–1999 AD” (2015). Main highlight of “O’ Magic Power of Bleakness” is the large-scale installation which reproduces a life-scale motorway bridge from the area where the artist grew up. The bridge, which is a recurring motive in Leckey’s production, is complemented by a sound piece revolving around a group of teenagers, inspired by local folklore and the artist’s experiences as a pre-adolescent. Mark Leckey’s research investigates the relationship between popular culture and technology and themes related with youth and nostalgia.
