Mary Weatherford: Train Yards

“Train Yards” features abstract paintings by Mary Weatherford, all referencing her personal experience. The artist experiments with visual elements such as light, colour, gesture, and three-dimensional objects, with original chromatic and textural effects, evoking urban and rural environments.

In 2012, Weatherford began experimenting with neon tubes, inspired by the illuminated signs in Bakersfield, California: the artist overlaps them on the painted colour blocks so that they project their industrial light onto the image adding an extra graphic aspect.
