Melanie Manchot: White Light Black Snow
First solo exhibition of London-based German artist Melanie Manchot at Parafin, London, features new works never exhibited before, namely a series of photographs and the video work “Cadence” (2018).
“White Light Black Snow” constitutes a photographic investigation around the qualities and conditions of white, specifically in relation to ice and snow. The work originates from Melanie Manchot’s previous projects responding to the landscape, community and tourism-led economic infrastructure of Engelberg in Switzerland. “Cadence” further develop the meditation upon these topics, being set in a snowy landscape. The exhibition is Manchot’s first extended body of photographic work in a number of years, despite the medium being central to her practice.
