Paul McCarthy
American artist Paul McCarthy takes part to the 360: VR Room series of exhibitions at Zabludowicz Collection, London, with his piece “C.S.C.C. Coach Stage Stage Coach VR experiment Mary and Eve“, first presented during the Venice Biennale in 2017. Commissioned and produced by Khora Contemporary, the virtual reality piece revisits McCarthy ongoing series “Coach Stage Stage Coach”. Through motion capture technology, the artist records two actors’ movements; the virtual reality narration features a group of female figures which perform repetitive actions, interacting with viewers and challenging their physical and mental boundaries.
The American artist is known for the provocative charge of his works, which merge high and low culture, transforming innocent icons from myth, folklore, and popular imaginary. McCarthy turns them into perverse and sexy figures to convey his criticism of American society’s conventions.
