Rinus Van De Velde: Ashtrays

König London presents Ashtrays, an exhibition of recent works by Belgium-based artist Rinus Van De Velde, on view from July 2nd through to August 8th, 2020.

“I am making a lot of ceramic ashtrays right now. (…) I totally enjoy modeling the clay and glazing and baking these ashtray sculptures in my kiln here in the studio, something I can do all by myself.” Rinus Van De Velde

For the exhibition at König London, Ceramic ashtrays provide a narrative awareness, questioning the relationship between reality and fiction, the decorative connotation of ceramics is charged with mock historicity.
