Sam Keogh: Sated Soldier, Sated Peasant, Sated Scribe
The exhibition runs across the basement galleries of CCA
Goldsmiths Centre for Contemporary Art, St James's, London SE14 6AD, UK
The works by Sam Keogh on view at Goldsmith Centre for Contemporary Art draw inspiration from pre-modern motifs and myths of abundance, in particular the Medieval one of Cockaigne, a land of freedom and abundance. “Sated Soldier, Sated Peasant, Sated Scribe” includes a performance, an installation of ceramic sculptures, and collaged paintings on paper, that critically address the contradictory elements of the myth. The displayed works recall a phantasmagorical garden of abundance and suspended time, that function as the settings and props for Keogh’s performance.
