The Real DMZ Project: Negotiating Borders

Korean Cultural Centre UK, Korean Cultural Centre UK, Grand Buildings, 1 – 3 Strand (Entrance on Northumberland Ave)

Featuring works by Kyungah Ham, Yeondoo Jung, Hein-kuhn Oh, Kyung Jin Zoh, Min Joung-Ki and Minouk Lim, with more to be announced, the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK), London announces “Negotiating Borders“, a new exhibition from the Real DMZ Project.

The demilitarized zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea has paradoxically been one of the world’s most heavily militarised areas since its establishment in 1953 until the recent ease of the border tensions, and unprecedented progress in inter-Korean relations including the demolishing of twenty guard posts in December 2018. “Negotiating Borders” intertwines the conceptual pillars of time and space to link the past, present and future of the DMZ.

The Real DMZ Project is an ongoing contemporary art project centred around research conducted on the DMZ founded by curator Sunjung Kim in 2012 with a long-term vision to create a platform that supports a variety of research methods and exhibition formats, ensuring that the results are made accessible in open archive.
