Urs Fischer: Dasha

Gagosian London Davies Street, 17-19 Davies St, London W1K 3DE, UK

Dasha is a larger-than-life-size wax sculpture by artist Urs Fischer, portraying the collector Dasha Zukova, friend of the artist. During the exhibition, the many wicks on the surface of the statue are lit, causing the piece to melt until becoming a pile of wax drippings.

Fischer is known for his wax sculptures which he conceives both as portraits and metaphors of reality, symbolising concepts such as life and death and reminding viewers of transience of life, beauty and art. He has been working on these pieces since the 2000s, arriving to design life-size candles that could be moulded in the shape he wanted and burn for several months.
