Willem de Kooning: Late Paintings

The exhibition features a selection of paintings made in the 80s in the last decade of de Kooning’s career. This body of work was last shown in the UK in a retrospective of de Kooning’s work at the Tate in 1995 when the discussion of his sad slide into dementia, which he was to die of two years later, threatened to eclipse an appraisal of the qualities of these works.
Skarstedt’s exhibition offers the possibility to engage with this important body of work afresh and to explore its legacies from today’s perspective.
