Louise Rosendal and Franco Turchi: Window

The installation Window (2015) by Louise Rosendal and Franco Turchi explores parallel realities: Simulated, artificial, earthy and clinical, they intrigue and captivate the observer.

The artist duo examines obsessions, desire and subcultures. The large-scale installation resembles a storefront – behind a row of colourful, patterned windows peepshow glimpses into parallel worlds are displayed on video screens. Here, sexuality oscillates between a common commodity and a promise that merges virtual experiments, ritual and love. The starting point for the videos was the artists’ recordings of the fantasy underworld of Tokyo and the Japanese Otaku culture, in which animation and role play dominate completely.

Window takes a look at a game of identities, where individuals absolve themselves and penetrate the world of parallel objects and phenomena. The art work explores fantasies through a screen of the commercial, of sub- and trash-cultures. The borders between body and projection, fantasy and reality, the ephemeral and the tangible no longer exist.
