Julia Spínola: Lubricán

Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo presents a solo show dedicated to Spanish artist Julia Spínola. This is the first individual exhibition of the artist’s practice in a Spanish institution.

The work of Julia invites the viewer to review some of the certainties, rules and norms that regulate the field of experience. Through a practice in which word and material come into contact and exchange positions, the artist displays a catalog of works in which references to the performative and the text are constant.

Born in Madrid in 1979, Spínola works mainly with sculpture and drawing. Her work has been seen at etHall, Barcelona (2017); Halfhouse, Barcelona (2016); Kunsthalle Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo (2015); La Panera, Lleida (2015); Komplot, Brussels (2015); La Casa Encendida, Madrid, (2014); Heinrich Ehrhardt, Madrid (2014) and The Mews, London (2013). Spínola’s work is included in the collections of Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (MNCARS), Madrid; Fundación Marcelino Botín, Santander; CA2M; La Panera, Lleida; and Fundación Montenmedio/La Casa Encendida, Madrid.
