Miguel Ángel Tornero: Big Frieze

The Palacio de Cristal, though currently closed for restoration, continues to host artistic programmes, maintaining its role as a cultural hub. Miguel Ángel Tornero inaugurates this series with “Gran Friso (Big Frieze)”, a work displayed on the canvases covering the building. Tornero’s collages blend photographs of Madrid’s landscapes and everyday scenes, juxtaposing fragments of urban life—small businesses, advertising, and monumental architecture—into complex compositions. These works transform flat photographs into richly textured images, capturing the city’s contradictions. The monumental canvas mirrors the building’s transparency, symbolising Madrid’s layers and narratives within the park’s historic space.
